Is Safe Finder really free?
Reporting and searching are always free, for everyone. Once a claim on a found item is verified, a one-off KES 50 fee unlocks the exact pickup location and hours — waived automatically for ID documents. Venues can also register and onboard for free; paid Growth and Enterprise plans exist only for venues that want extra staff seats, bulk import, and analytics.
Is there a fee to actually get my item back?
Reporting, searching, and messaging are free. Once your claim on a found item is verified, a small one-off KES 50 fee unlocks exactly where and when to collect it — this is the only fee Safe Finder itself ever charges, and it's waived automatically for ID documents. Rewards and tips, when they happen, always go directly between people and never through Safe Finder.
How does the AI matching work?
When you report an item, Safe Finder automatically compares it against existing reports and scores how likely they describe the same thing — looking at descriptions, categories, and context, not just matching keywords. Strong matches notify both people.
What happens if a promised reward isn't paid?
After a completed handover, the finder confirms whether the announced reward was actually paid — Safe Finder never holds or handles that money itself. The poster gets a few days to dispute an unpaid mark before it's finalized. Confirmed non-payment costs real reputation and temporarily blocks that person from announcing new rewards.
Can I tip the finder?
If no reward was announced, Safe Finder shows a gentle, entirely optional nudge suggesting you thank the finder with a small M-Pesa tip sent directly to them — never required, never handled or seen by Safe Finder.
Can my mall, airport, or hotel use this?
Yes — venue registration is self-serve and free. You get a branded public landing page, a QR code for signage at your entrance, staff accounts with role-based access, and a quick-add tool for logging found items in seconds.
Is my information safe?
Exact item locations aren't shown publicly — only approximate areas. Claims go through a verification step before contact details are exchanged, and messaging happens inside the app so you never have to share your phone number to arrange a pickup.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Safe Finder works entirely in your phone or computer's browser — open lostnfound.safehouse.co.ke, report or search, and you're done. No app store required.
What happens when there's a match?
Both people get notified. From there you can review the match, start a claim, chat safely inside the app to confirm details, and agree on where to meet — without ever needing to exchange a phone number.
